Ajay Sardana Appointed as Chairman of ICC National Expert Committee on Petrochemical Initiatives

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ajay Sardana as the Chairman of the ICC National Expert Committee on Petrochemical Initiatives. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades in the Industry, Mr. Sardana brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role.

Mr. Sardana currently serves as the President & Head – Strategy and Business Development – Polyester Business at Reliance Industries. Additionally, he holds the position of Director at BVM Overseas Ltd & Sintex Industries Limited.  Throughout his career, Mr. Sardana has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation in the Industry. His contributions have been recognized both nationally and globally, with prestigious awards such as the Most Influential Sustainability Leaders of India in 2018 and the PRIDE Award in Grasim.

Mr. Sardana’s international exposure includes tenures in Turkey and Indonesia, providing him with a global perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the Petrochemical sector. He holds a Masters degree in Textiles from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and a Masters in Business Administration from Singapore. He has also done one year leadership program in Sustainability from WBCSD in collaboration with Yale University USA.

In his new role as Chairman of the ICC National Expert Committee on Petrochemical Initiatives, Mr. Sardana will lead efforts to drive forward initiatives that promote sustainability, innovation, and collaboration within the Petrochemical industry. This appointment comes at a pivotal moment, considering that India’s Petrochemical sector is forecasted to experience significant growth, estimated at approximately 11.5% per annum from 2021-2027, reaching a value of $100 billion by 2027. Moreover, this growth trajectory is anticipated to continue steadily, with projections indicating a potential expansion to $350-$370 billion by 2040. This growth is fueled by India’s enhanced refining capacity, which has increased from 215 MMTPA in 2013-14 to 251.2 MMTPA now, positioning the nation as the fourth-largest in the world in terms of refining capacity, following the United States, China, and Russia.

The Indian Chamber of Commerce expresses confidence that the appointment of Mr. Sardana will serve as a catalyst for driving initiatives, shaping policies, and enhancing business promotion services within the Petrochemical sector. This strategic move is expected to significantly contribute to enhancing the sector’s competitiveness and fostering its sustainable growth.
