Padma Awardees from Bengal felicitated

This year, renowned dancer, actress Mamata Shankar, sarod artist Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, musician Gokul Chandra Das and building material industry icon Sajjan Bhajanka have been awarded the Padma Shri. They were honored by The Bengal on the evening of March 9 at the Taj Bengal. Chairman HM Bangur, President Jogen Chowdhury and Shirshendu Mukherjee presented the Padma Shri awardees on behalf of The Bengal organization. The artists expressed their excitement at being honored in this way.
In Mamata Shankar’s words, ‘I hear that everyone gets the Padma Shri. But I myself never thought that I would get this honor. I never worked thinking that I would get an award. I just did my job’.
In the words of Dhak artist Gokul Chandra Das, ‘I feel very blessed to be able to come to this event today at the invitation of The Bengal. I thank them and express my love for honoring me’.
In the words of Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, ‘I feel very proud to receive the Padma Shri award for the classical fraternity of Bengal. But I never thought that I would receive the award. Behind this achievement are the blessings of my parents and my gurus’.
Building material industry icon Sajjan Bhajanka said, ‘This honor from The Bengal is a great achievement for me. I have received the Padma Shri in a rare category like trading. So this honor is also a huge achievement for me.’
In the words of The Bengal President Jogen Chowdhury, ‘All those who have received the Padma Shri are renowned in their own fields. This achievement is as much a joy for us as it is for them. To honor their achievement, The Bengal has honored all of them.’
