Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City hosted the 14th edition of Swayam Siddha Awards Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City presented the 14th edition of Swayam Siddha at the ICCR where they felicitated 6 outstanding women achievers from a diverse cross section of fields.
The Recipients included this year’s Padmashree winner Dr. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Indologist, historian and pioneering lady priestess Dr Nandini Bhowmick, the daring young lady pilot who rescued students from Ukraine recently Mahasweta Chakraborty, World Book of Records entrant and astrologer Sohini Sastri, one of the leading lady architects of India, Monica Khosla Bhargava and Internationally acclaimed photographer Jayati Saha. Dr. Shashi Panja, Minister for Women, Child Development & Social Welfare, Govt of West Bengal was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City’s annual program Swayam Siddha is a tribute to the power of women since 2004. Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City has been celebrating the essence of womanhood through this program entitled “Swayam Siddha” where women achievers are portrayed as examples to other women in society. Various women-related issues are discussed or performed during this program. The highlight of the evening has always been the bestowing of Excellence Awards and Recognitions to ladies of substance who have fought all odds to reach heights of success in their careers and lives. Past awardees include iconic personalities of India.
Speaking about the recipients, Past District Governor Shyamashree Sen informed that each of the recipients is carefully selected through an evaluation of their work; impact on the society and ofcourse the actions being role model for women empowerment. Senior Rotarian Subhojit Roy informed that the theme for this year’s Swayam Siddha was “Gender Equality Today for a sustainable Tomorrow” as mandated by the United Nations.
