Welfare Schemes for Unorganised Workers

The Bharatiya Railway Mall Godam Shramik Union (BRMGSU) works for the welfare of unorganized workers engaged in unloading and loading wagons in railway goods shed. Since the British era, these workers have been eking out a living for meager wages in the lucrative sector of the Indian Railways freight services. They do not get any benefits of treatment, insurance, pension, quarters, children’s education, clothes, identity cards. Even in the goods shed there is no any facilities of drinking water, toilets and rest room. Under the leadership of all India. president of the organization and famous philanthropist Shri Parimal Kanti Mandal, Bharatiya Railway Mall Godam Shramik Union has been organizing around 10 lakh workers across India to demand these minimum rights. When the Government of India launched the “e-Shram” portal with some government facilities for all unorganized workers across India, the portal did not specify any occupation for railway goods shed workers. It is the Bharatiya Railway Mall Godam.

Shramik Union led by Shri Parimal Kanti Mondal who has managed to get the occupations specified in the “e-Shram” portal for the railway goods shed workers by collecting demands from the Ministry of Labour, Government of India. On March 12, 2022, the Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Labor &  Employment together with a press conference at the Constitution Club of India in Delhi gave official status to the workers of these railway goods shed and directed to collect detailed information about the workers working in railway goods shed across India. The greatest significance is that more than 200 Ministers and Parliament Members from all over India, irrespective of party affiliation, have given verbal and written support to our demands, led by the organization’s All India President Shri Parimal Kanti Mondal.

 

On 5th November 2023, “Manthan 2022” was organized by “ET thivernment” in the presence of the Central Minister at Vigyan for Bhawan, New Delhi. On that occasion Union Minister of State Minority Affairs Shri John Barla and All India President of the organization Shri Parimal Kanti Mondal discussed the rights and demands of Railway good shed workers. Through these discussions, a direction is cleared towards getting minimum rights and government benefits for these workers. Considering the plight of these workers across India, the Bharatiya Railway Mall Godam Shramik Union has undertaken a duty-free service scheme across India on its own initiative for the welfare of around 10 lakh railway goods shed workers and their nearly 20 lakh children and families. Provision is made for availing government facilities by enrolling in “e-Shram portal through “Help Desk” at major railway good sheds across India. Along with this, their bank accounts are being opened. “Shram Pathshala” has been started for the health and education of their children. Where laborer’s child are provided with nutritious food and English education at primary level. Accident & health insurance and provident fund & government pension facilities are provided for the workers. All these toll-free services will be provided through the “Help Desk” of the Union. Under the leadership of All India President of the organization Shri Parimal Kanti Mondal, a target has been fixed till the year 2026. Similarly, in each railway division area one super specialty hospital for these workers, schools for workers’ children at modern level from basic to higher education and labour’s communication centers for workers.
