Viksit Bharat 2047:  India’s Vision for Inclusive Sustained Growth

The Calcutta Chamber of Commerce, a leading institution for trade and commerce, held a special session on India’s economic vision for 2047, with a keynote address by eminent economist Dr. Rakesh Mohan, President Emeritus of the Centre for Social and Economic Progress and Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Shri Hari Shankar Halwasiya, President of the Chamber, emphasized the institution’s role in shaping policy dialogue and fostering economic excellence.

Dr. Rakesh Mohan, Honourable President Emiretus and Distinguished fellow who is a member of economic advisory council to the prime minister was the chief guest. He gave valuable insights on India’s economic roadmap, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and sustained growth. Focusing on Railway to R& D department, from unavailability of land to automobile engineering, to telecommunication to pharmaceutical to start ups and many more. He remarked: “India is well on the path of becoming one of the two largest economies in the world. The goal of Amrit Kaal is to create a united India where the level of facilities does not divide villages and cities.” He highlighted India’s rising GDP, which has surpassed $4 trillion, and outlined the ambitious target of $30 trillion by 2047, backed by infrastructure expansion, digital empowerment, and equitable access to opportunities. Also he pointed out which areas still need a major improvement. He also added,”I’m the firm believer that we can do and by 2070 India will have the largest economy in the world.”

Former President Shri Raj Kumar Chhajer chaired the session and appreciated the Chamber’s commitment to dialogue on Viksit Bharat, underscoring the importance of macroeconomic planning to realize the government’s vision. The session concluded with the Q&A session , as Mr. Rohan reaffirmed its pledge to contribute to the nation’s development through informed debate and strategic collaboration.
