Bharat Bandh Call of Samyukt Kisan Morcha Made A Complete Success In Bengal By Spontaneous Mass Participation

The Bharat Bandh call of Samyukt Kisan Morcha was a complete success in West Bengal with spontaneous mass participation by all sections of people. The call witnessed unprecedented response from farmers, farmworkers, industrial workers, unorganised sector workers, students, youth, traders, womens organisations, democratic and rights organisations. Private buses went off the roads. Markets, bazars, banks, colleges and shops remained closed. National Highways were blockaded in at least 24 places.

 

All blocks in all districts of Bengal and major towns witnessed mass gatherings, protest meetings, processions and road and rail blockade.

 

In capital city Kolkata, farmers organisations under the banner of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee organisations came together farmers organisations held mass meetings at several places and took out a long procession from Moulali to Dharmatala and thereafter blocked Dorina crossing where leaders of farmers, trade unions, bank employees organisation and women’s organisations spoke against the anti-people Modi Govt.

 

Reports received till now show mass protests and gathering in all blocks  of all districts of North and South Bengal. Reports of intense protest activities have been received from Panjipara, Raigunj, Karandighi (North Dinajpur), Kultali, Bhangore (South 24 Parganas), Badher Tikuri, Sirishtila, Jahan Nagar, Nimo, Bardhaman Town, Kalna (Purba Bardhaman), Dhubuliya, Krishnagar (Nadia), Taldanga, Bankura Town, Panchal (Bankura), Purulia Town (Purulia), Siliguri, Naxalbari (Darjeeling), Alipuruduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, Jhargram, Asansol (Paschim Bardhaman) and hundreds of other places.

 

Farmer leaders addressed the gatherings and emphasized that protests and struggle of farmers will continue till the 3 black laws illegally passed by the Union Government are withdrawn and till such time a new law to guarantee MSP for all crops of all farmers is passed by the Union Government. The leaders also denounced the efforts of the Union Government to undermine constitutional institutions and processes, trample upon democratic rights of people by crushing the voice of dissent, sell national assets and destabilise the federal structure of the nation. The slogan of “Corporate Bhagao, Desh Bachao” was repeatedly raised. The Modi regime was castigated for being pro-corporate, anti-farmer and anti-working class.

 

Samyukt Kisan Morcha thanks the people of Bengal for their firm and enthusiastic support to the cause of farmers of India and reiterates that the struggle of the farmers will continue till such time the Union Government accedes to the just and reasonable demand of the farmers.
