Recently, wheelchair marathon an unique event supporting friends on wheels was held at the Victoria Memorial . It was organised by Department of Neuro Rehabilitation, Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata . This was the first ever marathon in Kolkata where wheels and legs participated together starting and ending at Victoria Memorial. Janab Firhad Hakim,Hon’ble Mayor of Kolkata & Minister of Transport and Housing, Government of West Bengal was the Chief Guest while Dhiman Das, one of the directors of KC Das & Para-athlete Kamalakanta Nayak were the Guest of Honor.
The determination and confidence with which the participants completed the marathon was truly a sight to behold.The wheelchair athlethes have endured their life-changing accidents with uncommon courage and the support of their families and friends and each of their stories is an amazing parable of what the human body and the mind are capable of.
