Top karatekas compete at biggest karate championship in city

The grand “8th International Karate Championship – Indian Challengers’ Cup,” organized by the All India Seishinkai Shitoryu Karate Do Federation, concluded successfully at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. The three-day event, held from July 26 to 28, 2024, witnessed the participation of around 6000 players from Malaysia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and India. Participants ranged from as young as 5 years old to seasoned veterans, competing across 116 categories in Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, Senior, and Masters divisions. Hanshi Premjit Sen, the Chief Organizer and President of the Karate Do Association of Bengal (KAB), played a pivotal role in the event’s success. Known for his dedication to the betterment of Bengal karatekas, Hanshi Premjit Sen has been instrumental in providing a platform for local players to compete and interact with world-class athletes. His relentless efforts over the past 30 years have significantly contributed to the promotion and upliftment of karate in Bengal, earning him recognition as a living legend in the karate community both in India and globally. The championship featured thrilling events, with the Team Kumite event for Boys and Girls being a major highlight. The winners were awarded a total prize sum of Rs. 3 Lakhs. The event was broadcasted live on various social media platforms, allowing a wider audience to witness the talent and sportsmanship on display. “Due to financial constraints, players cannot visit foreign countries or interact with foreign players to enhance skills. I organize this Tournament every year only to give our players an exposure to see the foreign players and learn from them, without spending money.” – Hanshi Premjit Sen The championship was graced by numerous dignitaries, including (on Saturday) Sri Saugata Roy (Hon’ble MP, Govt. of India); Sri Pulak Roy (Hon’ble Minister of Public Health & Engineering, Govt. of WB); Col. Navendra Singh Paul (Joint Commissioner of Police, Wireless Branch, Kolkata Police); Mrs. Krishna Chakraborty (Hon’ble Mayor, Bidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation); Mr. Satnam Singh Ahluwalia (Chairman – IHA Foundation) and many others.
