Thrilling Finals Mark End of State Top 16 Table Tennis Championship

On Sunday, YMCA experienced an exhilarating finale to the State Top 16 Table Tennis Championship, organized by Bengal State Table Tennis Association. The final match, which marked the culmination of the three-day event from August 30th to September 1st, showcased the remarkable talent and determination of the state’s best young players. The tournament featured intense competition across four categories: Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, and Under 17. The grand finale drew the attention of prominent personalities in Indian sports, making it a memorable and prestigious event.

The event was graced by prominent figures in Indian sports. Sourav Chakraborty, India’s Olympic Table Tennis coach, Biswarup Day and Abhishek Dalmia attended the final ceremony. This championship not only highlighted the emerging talent in the state but also served as an inspiring platform for young athletes to strive for excellence in their sporting careers. The presence of such distinguished guests underscored the significance of the event and its impact on the future of table tennis in the region. In the Under 17 category, Punit Biswas from Dakshin Kolkata earned the first rank. The girls’ title in the same category was claimed by Ahana Sengupta, also from Dakshin Kolkata, who delivered a series of dominant performances to secure her win.

The Under 15 category witnessed Aditya Das from Howrah claiming the boys’ title with a strategic and powerful game, while Aneswa Das from North 24 Parganas took the girls’ crown, showcasing her agility and tactical brilliance. For the younger participants, the Under 13 category saw Rudraksha Das from North 24 Parganas rise to the top among the boys, with Saranya Kar from Hooghly triumphing in the girls’ division, both of whom displayed promising potential for the future. In the Under 11 category, Ariv Dutta from North 24 Parganas took home the boys’ title, while Akshita Mahato from North Kolkata captured the girls’ championship, both delivering impressive performances that belied their young age. The total prize money of ₹1,56,000 was distributed among the winners, further encouraging the budding talent in Bengal’s table tennis circuit.
