The Asiatic Society, Kolkata commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Prof. (Dr.) Amiya Chakravarty

The Asiatic Society, Kolkata hosted a special commemorative event entitled “Remembering Prof. (Dr.) Amiya Chakravarty (1901–1986)” to mark his 125th Birth Anniversary at the Society’s premises. The event began with a welcome address from the Administrator, Lt. Col. Anant Sinha, who emphasized the lasting literary and intellectual impact of Prof. Amiya Chakravarty on Bengali literature and modern Indian philosophy.
The introductory session titled “Mara-jibaner markatmani” was presented by Dr. Ritam Mukherjee. Following this, distinguished scholars and academicians gave lectures on various aspects of Amiya Chakravarty’s literary, philosophical, and humanitarian legacy.
Among the speakers were Prof. Sumita Chakrabarti, who discussed “Kalbelar Kabi Amiya Chakravarty”; Prof. Tarun Mukhopadhyay, who presented a lecture on “Tirisher Kabi Amiya: Charcha o Charya”; Prof. Sumita Bhattacharyya, who examined “Amiya Chakravarty: Biswamanabatabodh O Antarjatikatabad”; Dr. Mostak Ahamed, who spoke on “Amar Amiya: Darshane-Biggane-Chetanay”; and Dr. Devarati Jana, who delivered a lecture on “Amiya Chakravarty-r Rachanasoili”.
The event concluded with closing remarks from the coordinator, Dr. Ritam Mukherjee, followed by a formal vote of thanks. The gathering included members, researchers, and literature enthusiasts, reinforcing the continued significance of Prof. Amiya Chakravarty’s contributions to Bengali literature, comparative thought, and global humanism.
