State-of-the-art neurosciences campus to come up in city

Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata, (I-NK) celebrated its 13th Foundation day  on 15th of April 2022 The occasion was marked by a function where the team I-NK, well-wishers honourable guests celebrated the success of the institute.

Since its inception,the institute has grown as a pride of East. To a large extent, it has reversed the exodus of neurological patients to Vellore, Bangalore,Chennai and other centers in the South.The patients going to those places often get friendly suggestions -“When you have in I-NK in our state why do you travel to us?”.

The Institute has brought the best of the world from across the globe- be it equipment, be it skillful doctors, be it compassion for the patients and the needy, I-NK has developed strong sub specialty practice where the clinicians are further trained in a particular domain (like stroke, epilepsy. Parkinson’s disease, tumour surgery etc). As a result ,the patients get the specialist care of highest standard under one roof. All doctors of I-NK are dedicated to this institute itself (full time) with absolutely no private practice. Availability of specialist  during the night, a daily morning clinical meeting where the doctors exchange ideas about treatment of difficult cases, and keeping its door open even at the height of the Pandemic, are some of the unique features of the institute.

On the occasion of the foundation day, Dr Hrishikesh Kumar (Vice chairman) presented progress report of I-NK. The numbers clearly indicated that the institute has grown significantly over the years. The Spinal Unit of the institute is organizing a ‘Live Surgery’ workshop on 16th& 17 April. which will be attended by neurosurgeons and spinal surgeons from various parts of India.

Prof R P Sengupta, OBE extended his heart-felt thanks to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Government of West Bengal, all the donors and well-wishers and also to the team at I-NK. To the delight of everyone present he told the audience about the annexe building of I-NK (10, West range, and 6B AJC Bose Road).

The invited dignitaries graced the occasion with their brief but impactful speeches. Janab Firhad Hakim, The Hon’ble  Mayor of Kolkata, Sri S. S. Nigam, the Principal Secretary,Dept. of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal. Prof. Asis Chattopadhyay, Pro – VC, Calcutta University, Mr. Andalib Elias, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata. and Actor Ms. Indrani Halder were among the dignitaries who were present on the occasion.
An informal chat with the founder of I-NK, Dr R P Sengupta gave an idea about his dreams and future vision of I-NK. He refuses to rest on the laurels and is already working towards building a neurosciences campus he fondly calls-“Snayu Tirtha”. He solicits support from the authority, donors and well-wishers.
