Science and cinema: Raising scientific awareness using films

Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute – SRFTI, Kolkata under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt of India in collaboration with Vlgyan Prasar, Dept of Science & Technology, Govt of India Is organizing 5th International Science Film Festival of India (ISFFI) from 6 — 8 November, 2019 at the four auditoriums of SRFTI campus. ISFFI seeks to promote science popularization among citizens and aims at attracting talented young filmmakers and science enthusiasts- The ISFFI offers an opportunity for students and other participants to get involved with the process and improve their understanding of various feats in science and technology. There are 200 entries of films to be screened from different parts of the world including India. Internationally acclaimed and award winning foreign and Indian films on science, health and environment will be screened donne the festival.

Several eminent personalities and filmmakers from India and abroad will be present during the festival.Filmmakers will be felicitated with IISF Science Film Awards. Two feature films, ‘Mission Mangal’ and ‘Parrnanu: The Story of Pokhran’ will be screened. There will be a special Screening of films on “1st Indian Scientific South Pate Expedition in 2009′ followed by discussion with scientists. A day-long Symposium titled ‘Packaging of Science for Public Interest’ and panel discussion on various aspects of cinema and science communication will also be the part of the ISFFI.Nimish Kapoor, Head, Science Film Festival Division, Vigyan Prasar,Dr.Nakul Parashar-Director Vigyan Prasar and Dr Debamitra Mitra, Director, SRFTI was there to brief the press.at the Kolkata Press Club
