Recent advances and future trends in microendoscopic spine surgery

Endoscopic spine surgery promises to be the next paradigm shift in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS).In endoscopic spine surgery, the patient’s recovery takes place in a much lesser time than in open surgery. Due to the surgery done with the endoscope, the veins appear to have increased up to 25 times their normal size, which also reduces the risk of injury to them. There is also no blood loss in endoscopic spine surgery.

The Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata (I-NK) organised INK SPINE UPDATE 2023 which is an academic extravaganza that aims at training young spine surgeons of India the the advanced techniques- Motion preserving cervical disc replacement and Endoscopic Spine Surgeries which even can be done while the patient is awake.

Every session included technique-related lectures and one live endoscopic surgery. Spine surgeons, neurosurgeons, and pain physicians learned nuances of this revolutionary technique.

Dr Karim Maxine Challali who has performed highest number of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic spine surgeries in Europe was present as a faculty for this surgical Workshop. This is a first of its kind endeavor in Eastern India.
