Re-opening of Japan Gallery In Tagore House

On February 19th, 2024, the inauguration ceremony of the refurbished Japan gallery of Rabindra Bharati Museum was held at Tagore House in “Jorasanko” in the presence of Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. NAKAGAWA Koichi and Vice-Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University, Mr. Subhro Kamal Mukherjee.
Rabindra Bharati University had received a grant under the Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects Scheme in 2019. The refurbishment was done using the grant amount aiming to highlight Rabindranath Tagore’s relation with Japan and cultural and intellectual exchanges between the two countries which were initiated at Tagore House, “Jorasanko” and Tagore’s Japan visits.
Thereafter, a Kyogen performance was showcased by the Shigeyama Sengoro family, a distinguished Kyogen group that was once patronized by the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
