Pujor Gaan evokes nostalgia. Pujor Gaan is an emotion which has touched the heart of Bengalis over the years since time immemorial. But over the last decade, the Pujor Gaan culture somehow has lost its lustre. Thus, to bring back the lost legacy of Bangla Pujor Gaan, music director duo, Shiladitya – Raj has done the impossible by bringing in the singers’ par excellence, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik & Amit Kumar, who ruled the music industry and gave numerous Mega Hit Pujor Gaan during 80’s & 90’s apart from their vast repertoire of commercial successes, in a single musical Jukebox – Phire Paowa, produced by Asha Audio.
An initiative of Samaj Sebi Sangha, who are also playing a major role in rekindling the people’s interest once again in Pujor Gaan, Phire Paoa is presented by Avidipta II, a luxury housing project developed by Bengal Peerless. Phire Paowa consists of 3 lilting songs – Jodi Kokhono Harai sung by Kumar Sanu & written by Utpal Das, Ajana Oyi Du Chokhe sung by Alka Yagnik & written by Soham Majumdar and Eshe Gechhi Eyi Aami, sung by Amit Kumar & written by Priyo Chattopadhyay. The music has been produced, mixed and mastered by Som Chakraborty. All the songs were recorded at studio Pancham in Mumbai.
Phire Paowa was launched by the stalwarts of Indian Classical Music, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty & Ustad Rashid Khan in the presence of music director duo Shiladitya – Raj, Ms Apeksha Lahiri, Director, Asha Audio Company, Arijit Maitra, General Secretary, Samaj Sebi Sangha, Mr Sambaran Banerjee, Former National Selector & Cricketer and Mr Ketan Sengupta, CEO, Bengal Peerless. “Pujor Gaan has a different charm. We used to wait eagerly during our younger days for the Pujor Gaan to come out first in records and then over the years we had cassettes and then came CDs. And we still fondly remember as well as listen to those songs. But in the last decade or so, we found that the interest for Pujor Gaan has diminished significantly. Thus, we thought of reviving the trend and got together the legends with unmatched track records, whose songs created magic in the 90’ and even till early 2000’s for Phire Paoa. We have been composing music for over 25 years and have earlier recorded many songs with both Amit Kumar and Kumar Sanu. Recording with them once again was a pleasure as they still have that zest, the tonal quality and melody in their voice even after so many years. We worked with Alka Yagnik for the first time and she is fabulous. We also have the Trumpet – King Kishore Sodha playing for us in all the songs of this album. We are happy to have Asha Audio once again coming up to support quality music and thankful to Samaj Sebi Sangha for taking an initiative to revive Pujor Gaan”, said Music Directors, Shiladitya – Raj.
