Murtuza Lodhghar Memorial Match
The Murtuza Lodhgarh Memorial Match, a tribute given to Murtuza Lodhgarh was organized by his friends of St. James’ school and Co-players, and supported by Cricket Association of Bengal at Kalighat Club.
The event was convened by his childhood teacher Mr. Mohammad Faizal Salim and his childhood couch Mr. Izhar and taken forward in the presence of eminent personalities like Mr. Avishek Dalmiya, Mr. Naresh Ojha, Mr. Snehasish Ganguly, Mr. Debabrata Das, Mr. Debasish Ganguly, Mr. Sagar Daryani and other members of the cricketing fraternity of Bengal.
Murtuza Lodhghar was the winning Captain of CAB under 16 and 19 matches, ex-Ranji player and also coached women cricket players. The event started with the players assembling for a minute of silence in memory of Late Murtuza Lodhghar followed by a line up and match briefing at 9am.
The match started at 9:15 am.
In memory of Murtuza, they are distributing 12 cricket kits comprising of bats, balls to 12 underprivileged women cricketers. This ceremony will take place in Eden Gardens tomorrow.
Sagar Daryani with an overwhelmed heart mentioned, “Murtuza was 12 years senior to me and was an inspiration. I first saw him playing at Eden Gardens and that is how I took interest in the game. It is sad that he is no more with us but he will keep ruling in our hearts. He would have been happy seeing us doing our part for the game of cricket.”
The event commenced with a prize distribution ceremony and lunch for all. It was an eventful day to remember and recognize the contributions made by Murtuza Lodhghar towards the game of cricket.
