“SARA BANGLA DABA SANGSTHA”, the parent body of Chess in West Bengal, is a well known name in the sports field of West Bengal. Since inception, this organization has been engaged in promotion and popularization of the game of chess as well as social welfare activities. Their State Chess Association is an affiliated organisation under All India Chess Federation and it is are eligible for selection of state teams for all National Chess Championships.
“Our Young talents have made us proud by bringing various laurels for our state from the national and international competitions. In the recent Commonwealth Chess Championship, Bengal players have won 3 Gold Medals and one Silver Medal. Again, our players secured 1st, 2nd and 4th place in the National Rapid Championship, while in the National Blitz als,our players won the Championship.However, our state can only reach at the peak of its level only if its districts grow up to a satisfactory level. It is a pity that our districts still lack the necessary funds and are unable to afford chess equipments for the youna talents.” said Dibyendu Barua , President , Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha.
“Mitra Charitable Trust”, led by Shri Sanjoy Kumar Mitra, has extended its support to fill in the gap in this field. The Chess Outreach initiative, a brainchild of Shri Sanjoy Kumar Mitra, aims to distribute, free of cost, chess sets and chess clocks to 23 district chess associations have been formed. Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha has joined hands with him to turn his dream into a reality.
It has been decided that this year 1150 chess sets and 230 chess clocks will be distributed to the 23 districts in a phased manner of 50 Chess sets and 10 Chess Clocks for each district. Nearby districts like Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas will collect these material directly from the organisation. In case of other districts, representatives of SBDS and MCT will go to those places and will distribute the materials to the district representatives. In the first phase of the distribution program, Representatives will visit 5 districts of North Bengal, namely Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar & Cooch Behar from 4th to 7th April, 2024.
