As Mentaid stepped into its 40th year of its journey, a concert was held in celebration, on Wednesday, 18th March, 2026, at the Madhusudan Mancha, 2, Dakhinapan Complex, Kolkata.
Mentaid is the first registered Parents’ Organisation in West Bengal, working for the past 40 years for the benefit of children and young adults with intellectual disabilities (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and multiple disabilities). Most of the beneficiaries are from the economically challenged homes and Mentaid works toward a holistic development to support and empower children and adults with intellectual disabilities, as well as their parents and caregivers.
At the concert students and trainees of Mentaid, along with their parents and siblings performed on stage.
Mukti, the dance drama, scripted and directed by Jahar Das showcased the talents of our children and young adults. Set design, costumes and light design added a sparkle to the drama. It was a wonderful presentation which received heartfelt appreciation from the audience. Mukti besides providing entertainment also sent out a message of living in harmony with nature.
Eminent danseuse Priti Patel was the artistic consultant while Oindrilla Dutt handled the curation and the live commentary.
Renowned personalities from various fields will grace the event as Guests of Honour, namely, Smt. Tulika Das, Chairperson West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Smt. Alokananda Ray, renowned dancer and social reformer, Smt. Aloka Guha, Ex, Chairperson, The National Trust and Padma Shree Awaredee Dr. Sudha Kaul, Founder of Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy.
The programme began with an emotional speech from Smt. Iona Kundu, Founder-Chairperson of Mentaid which was followed by a video on Mentaid’s 40-year journey. Mukti was staged after the opening act of Panch Tatwa.
