Joydeep Roy Memorial Foundation confers Scholarships to needy and meritorious students

46 needy and meritorious students received Scholarships from Joydeep Roy Memorial Foundation at an event at Gyan Manch, Kolkata. This is the 7th edition of this noble venture “Kaha tum chale gaye”. The Foundation has just been registered as a charitable trust and would be engaged in doing several welfare activities for the less fortunate ones. Every year on Joydeep’s birthday on 11th April, a musical program is organized followed by Scholarship distribution to needy and meritorious students irrespective of caste and creed. Joydeep was an excellent student, especially in Mathematics and Computer Science. He had done his M. Tech.in Computer Science and got a job as a computer teacher in Chamba in Uttarakhand in April, 2018 but within a very short span of 12 days of joining he fell down in his quarters and suffered internal haemorrhage. He succumbed to his injuries on 16th April, 2018.
Like every year, a musical program was organized by his sister Joeeta Basu with Joydeep’s musical guru Sohail Rana-ji where other distinguished singers also participated.
Joydeep’s elder sister Joeeta Basu is a Senior Economics Teacher of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School and associated with several NGOs like Concern for Calcutta, Ramyani, All India Qaumi Ekta Manch, Reach Out Star Foundation etc in various pivotal roles. Joeeta is taking strong initiatives to take the Scholarship program to the next level so that more and more meritorious students are benefited.
Names of organisations who participated in the Scholarship distribution program were, Lighthouse for The Blind, National Federation of The Blind, Howrah Vivekananda Siksha Kendra Dhumda, Shree Gandhi Vidyalaya, CMO Girl’s High School, St. Stephen’s School, Bowbazar, Baranagar Petals & Anjuman Islamia Girl’s High School and God’s Grace Church.
Dignitaries who were present, Barun Chanda, Sudip Mukherjee, Manasi Roychowdhury, Koneenica Banerjee, Fr. Dominic Savio, Principal St. Xavier’s College, Fr. Roshan Tirkey, Principal St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Rupkatha Sarkar, Principal, La Martiniere for girls.
Basu confers the title of Ambassadors of Education to the generous hearts who donate the scholarships. This year there were 27 including Ramita Roychowdhury, Rajendra Khandelwal, Anindita Ray, C M Bachhawat, IAS (Retd.), Mankamal Bachhawat,Sharat Jhunjhunwala, Rupa Adhikari, Devi Shah, Leena Rachh, Md Azhar, Shaheryaar Ali Mirza, Amar Sanganeria, Insp. Jaysurja Mukherjee, Imran Zaki, Rajendra Singh, Anasuya Mandal, Rashmi Rozario, Bratati Bhattacharya (UEEF), Mahesh Saharia, Pradeep Khemka, Ganga Dhanuka Yadav, Pawan Patodia, Inner Wheel Club of Calcutta Mahanagar, Manju Poddar, Sheela Bagree, R K Chhajer, Ranjit Bhattacharjee, Stratosphere Education, Vinayak Pasricha and B C Sen Jewellers.
In this occasion Mrs. Manasi Roychowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group said, “A great initiative has been taken by Joydeep Roy Memorial Foundation, they are helping needy, meritorious students. We are always there to help in all possible ways.”
