Jishnu Mitra Foundation (JMF) which aims to nurture and promote underprivileged talented young footballers in the 10-15 year age group today launched a free Football Nursery in Kolkata’s iconic Maidan in association with the Veterans Sports Club, Kolkata. The Veterans Sports Club is supported by football legends like Shyam Thapa, Bhaskar Ganguly, Mihir Bose, Biswajit Bhattacharya and Sumit Mukherjee who were also present at the launch of the Football Nursery. Jishnu Mitra Foundation promotes football amongst talented children with an aim to create a team of India’s rising football stars.
The Foundation was launched in 2018 with a mission to promote football among underprivileged children under the age of 15. It provides a growth platform to the underprivileged children, enabled by The Sports Company in Delhi-NCR and the Veteran’s Sports Club in Kolkata. The young boys play as a U-15 team, where the trainers help them develop into professional footballers. The Foundation’s mission is to create a team of India’s rising football stars from amongst the budding sports talent in our country at the grassroots level. JMF has already conducted more than 3 trials reaching out to more than 200 kids, since its inception in the year 2018.
“Our mission is to make a difference in the world of Indian football, to create a team of India’s rising football stars and we believe that India can regain its lost glory if together, we can help structure grassroots football and help develop talented children from a young age. These children today don’t have access to professionalcoaching and mentorship. JMF with the help of the Veterans Club stalwarts who are role models globally will help with proper coaching and development of mental strength in the young footballers,’’said Jagdish Mitra, Founder of Jishnu Mitra Foundation (JMF). Mitra is also the Chief Strategy & Growth Officer of Tech Mahindra.
“We at Veterans Club are keen to contribute and help Indian Football in every possible way. Jishnu Mitra Foundation’s initiative to help build and develop talent from a young age resonates with our vision. We are very excited about this partnership and are confident we together will have a strong impact through this nursery in Bengal and Indian Football,” said Shyam Thapa, ex India Captain and a legend of Indian football.
“Since our inception in 2018, we’ve been working hard to make a real difference in the lives of talented youngsters that do not have access to quality training and coaching. Kolkata as we can see from the Veterans Club members has been the cradle for Indian football. We want to unearth that talent at a young age and nurture them such that they too can aspire to be the legends that the illustrious Veterans Club members are,” said Amit Mukherjee, Co-Founder, Jishnu Mitra Foundation and Co-Founder Unigrow Solutions.”
