On the occasion of World Heart Day, Fortis Hospital, Anandapur organized aHealth Check-up Camp and Health Talk on ‘Respond to Medical Emergency’ for journalists at the Press Club. The event aimed to raise awareness about cardiac ailments and sensitize participantson how to handle medical emergencies. Around100 participants attended the checkup and talk held on 26 September 2023, Tuesday.The event was conducted by Dr. Sanjukta Dutta, Head and Consultant, Emergency Medicine, Fortis Hospital, Anandpur, Kolkata.
During an emergency, time is of the essence. The Health Talk aimed to spread awareness about how to be prepared for medical emergencies. Fostering a basic understanding of medical emergencies within the general population is critical as it can prevent damage to the heart, brain, and other vital organs and are thus essential in saving lives.In addition to the health talk, a Health Checkup Camp was also organized for the journalists, which included Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), Electrocardiogram (ECG), Bone Mineral Density (BMD),Blood Pressure Monitoring,Random Blood Sugar Testing, Eye Examination, Weight Measurement,followed by consultation with a Fortis doctor.
Dr. Sanjukta Dutta, Consultant, Emergency Medicine said, “Journalists play an indispensable role in shaping societal perceptions, often working under high stress and tight deadlines. This constant pressure, combined with irregular hours and sometimes challenging fieldwork, can put them at an increased risk of heart disease. Regular Checkups are crucial not just for early detection of potential issues but also for overall cardiac health.
She further added, “ Often, people can’t identify life-threatening emergencies or don’t know the essential steps to respond. It’s vital that we educate everyone about the warning signs of various ailments and how to act promptly. Understanding and acting on symptoms of medical emergencies like heart attacks, strokes, trauma, respiratory failure, uncontrollable bleeding, and seizures can be the difference between life and death. Raising awareness about these situations is not just beneficial – it’s a potential lifesaver.”
