The eminent President of MSME Development Forum- West Bengal Chapter, Dr. (h.c.) CS Adv Mamta Binani completes triumphant 25 years in her profession. Her journey started as an All-India Topper in the Intermediate Examinations of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India in the year 1996. Receiving D. L. Mazumdar’s Silver Medal and Maujj Ram Memorial Award, she has been the Chairperson of the Eastern India Regional Council of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India. She has been conferred with the ‘Bharat Nirman Awards’ for ‘Excellence in Professional Services’ and is the first Company Secretary to have received this prestigious award. Other than this, she has received a number of awards namely, ‘Tejaswini Award’, ‘Hello Kolkata’, ‘KKMERS’ and the Best President Award, Lions Clubs International District 322B2. It was an honourable moment when she was the first Indian to have been endowed with the prestigious award of ‘IWIRC Women of the Year in Restructuring (Asia) Award, 2021’. Ms. Binani has also been felicitated at the 15th Edition of Asian Business & Social Forum 2021, Awards & Business E-Summit, on 26th October 2021 at Emirates Ball Room, Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai.
She writes for leading journals, magazines and newspapers and contributes articles and papers in various journals of professional institutes, on topics of varied interests and has served as a jury member of the coveted ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance and CSR, 2016, Golden Peacock Award of The Institute of Directors for the year 2016, ASSOCHAM Award for Commendable CSR Activity for the year 2016. She is the Vice President of the Kolkata National Company Law Tribunal Bar Association, the Chairperson of the Merchant Chamber of Commerce-Legal Affairs Council and also an executive committee member of INSOL India. She is a Board Member of International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and is presently the Co-Chair of the India Network. Ms Binani is an Independent Director in some of the coveted Boards of the Country viz. Century Ply, Balrampur Chini Mills, Emami Limited and others. Ms Binani feels that the government is the engine, and that as a member of that machinery, it is her responsibility to highlight the government’s efforts by bringing them to the masses and classes. She is a frequent and prolific writer, lecturer, and thought leader in the field of insolvency.

Being a woman and hailing from a Marwari community, it was not easy to embark this journey but it was the support of my family who encouraged me to be who I am today. From starting off as a chairperson to being the President of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, a practising advocate and now the President of the MSME Development Forum- West Bengal Chapter, it’s been a roller coaster of events. There has been obstacles, and there’s always been a way to overcome it. This is a reminder to the youth of this country that no matter the difficulties you face in your journey, it’s the will and the strive to prove yourself that can help you achieve your goals.
