Film festival celebrates the 70 years diplomatic relations between India and Japan

Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata and Bidhannagar Film Society, in association with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and with the support of Federation of Film Societies of India, organized the Japan India Film Festival, where a selection of 3 Japanese films with English subtitles and 3 Indian films were screened.

The film festival was  inaugurated by Ms. Gouri Basu, Director, EZCC in the presence of Mr.NAKAGAWA Koichi, Consul-General of Japan in Kolkata and Mr. Ranjan Ghosh, Filmmaker. Dr. Shubhankar Home, Working President, Bidhannagar Film Society,  chaired the ceremony.

The year 2022 marks the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between Japan and India and theme of the year 2022 has been decided as “Building a future for our Centenary.” It is hoped that the dreams and hopes of both Japanese and Indian friends across generations shall continue to develop together towards the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India and beyond.

After the inauguration, Kamome Diner (2006), a comedy directed by OGIGAMI Naoko, and Rang Beranger Kori (2018)an anthology of four stories directed by Ranjan Ghosh, was shown.

Next day, the drama Shiori (2018) by SAKAKIBARA Yusuke was  screened, followed by In the Land of Poison Woman (2019) by Manju Borah which revolves around the tribal customs of Arunachal Pradesh.

On the concluding day of the film festival, two films — the action movie Neko Ninja (2017) by WATANABE Takeshi and Stand Up (2019) by Vidhu Vincent —was screened.
