Exhibition of Memorabilia of Justice Radhabinod Pal

Consul-General of Japan, Mr. NAKAGAWA Koichi, Secretary Curator, Victoria Memorial Hall, Mr. Samarendra Kumar, and Dr. Madhumita Roy, Grand-Daughter of Late Justice Radhabinod Pal inaugurated the Object of the Month for February 2024 at Victoria Memorial Hall on January 31, 2024. The objects were several memorabilia belonging to
Justice Radhabinod Pal, whose dissenting judgement during the Tokyo Trials of the late 1940s is highly respected in Japan. Consul General NAKAGAWA reminded everyone that former Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Shinzo Abe had come to Kolkata in 2007 to meet members of the Pal family. Consul General stated that Justice Pal finds mention in school textbooks of Japan and it is very heartwarming to see Victoria Memorial Hall and members of the Pal family taking initiative to hold this exhibition.
Mr. Kumar, thanked the family members of Radhabinod Pal for their contributions in organizing the exhibition and hoped to have closer ties with the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata for more such activities.
Dr. Roy informed that one of the two awards of Justice Pal being displayed are Padma Vibhushan from the government of India and replica of a ship by former Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Nobusuke Kishi. She said that she was moved to see how carefully memoirs ofJustice Pal are preserved in Japan’s Pal-Shimonaka Museum and hoped that this exhibition at Victoria Memorial will educate young generations about her grandfather.
