The best paddlers of the country is competing in the UTT National ranking table tennis championships (East Zone) held at the Dumurjlala Stadium, Howrah. The eight day Championship will witness over 1000 players competing. The total prize money is of Rs. 7,46,600. The tournament will be in cadet and sub-junior events, elite men and women categories. Some of the best players of the country such as Manav Thakkar,Madhurika Patkar,Harmeet Desai,Anthony AmalrajSudhanshu Grover,Archana Kamath, Sutirtha Mukherjee,Krittwika Sinha Roy,Surbhi Patwari , Anirban Ghosh and many more.
Speaking on the occasion,Sadhan Dutta, veteran table tennis player and former Bengal captain said “This championship will see participation from some of the best players from across the country.I hope this event will bring renewed focus on Table Tennis, in which India has been performing well in recent times. I extend my best wishes to the participating teams.”
Table Tennis legend V. Chandrasekhar, popularly known as Chandra was present there. Just 16 days after winning Arjuna Award,he slipped into coma after a medical negligence incident. His Table Tennis career was cut short and he was left with permanent movement related disabilities.Chandra decided to focus on training upcoming players and began coaching classes.”Chandra’s TT academy aims at nurturing young talents to professional level and also provide the best infrastructure to all Table Tennis admirers. The Academy has tables matching International Standards.” said Chandra.He played like a champ, fought like a champ and is now living like a champ.
