Cinephiles are in for a treat as the 3rd edition of International Sports Film Festival of India to kick off from Feb 11

A press conference for the International Sports Film Festival of India (ISFFI), presented by the Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI), was held at Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club on February 8, 2025. The festival is scheduled to take place from February 11 to 15, 2025, at Nandan 3, Kolkata. The panel at the press meet included: Shri Shankar Pal (Secretary, Federation of Film Societies of India) Shri Samiran Biswas (Regional Secretary – East, Federation of Film Societies of India) Shri Suman Barman (Kho-Kho player, Indian World Cup team) Shri Uttam Talapatra (Corporate President, Straight Drive – Co-organizer) Shri Rongon Majumder (Secretary, Organising Committee, ISFFI).

The conference aimed to promote sports through cinema and highlighted the significance of sports-based films in inspiring athletes and audiences alike.

Shri Rongon Majumder shared details about the festival, stating, “The event will feature fictional, non-fictional, and LGBTQ-themed films. On February 12, the Bengal Team of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) will be felicitated, while February 14 will be dedicated to showcasing LGBTQ films. The festival will also extend its screenings to Siliguri, Delhi, Lucknow, and Port Blair. A total of 24 films from 12 countries will be presented, and three awards will be announced on the closing day, February 15. Additionally, biopics of legendary athletes will be screened through an audiovisual format.”

Shri Suman Barman emphasized the need for more sports-based films, stating, “Films play a crucial role in inspiring young and aspiring athletes. More sports stories should be brought to the screen to motivate the next generation.” The International Sports Film Festival of India 2025 promises to be a unique confluence of sports and cinema, celebrating the spirit of athletics through powerful storytelling.
