‘Cinemar Samabartan’ Award Night Hosted To Honour The Best In Bengali Cinema For The Years 2020 & 2021

Cinemas are back in the theatres. And so was the first physically held Award Ceremony of the country, ‘Cinemar Samabartan’ hosted by West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association (WBFJA) held in Kolkata. ‘Cinemar Samabartan’ was held after a gap of a year and the Best Bengali Cinemas and their performers for the years 2021 – 2022 were honoured amidst the who’s who of the Bengali Film Industry and noted film critics and journalists at the iconic Priya Cinema on Sunday, 13th February, 2022.

There were 17 award categories in the popular segment, 8 award categories in the Technical Award segment, and the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for each of the years. Mr Victor Banerjee and Mr Dipankar Dey were conferred with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for the years 2020 & 2021 for their notable contributions towards the World of Cinema.

“Despite the dark grip of the pandemic, Bengali cinema has managed to sail through and has grown leaps and bounds in all aspects – from performances to technology, adopting newer platforms to survive. Through our theme “Cinemar Mawja Cinemar Hall E”, we want to give out a loud call to every film lover and movie buff that Cinema can be best enjoyed at the Hall itself. Cinemar Samabartan honoured some of the best works done by the film fraternity over the last two years. We had a tough time in deciding on the award winners as there were superlative performances and unique creations by the makers. Besides honouring some of the best film works from the recent time, also takes a pledge for the holistic development of the Bengali cinema.”, said Mr Nirmal Dhar, Secretary, West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association (WBFJA)

The show started with the grand launch of WBFJA’s publication of the original handwritten script of the film ‘Ghare Baire’, by Shri Satyajit Ray, in commemoration of his birth centenary.
