Chetana theatre group set to celebrate 50 years of journey

Chetana, the acclaimed theatre group, will complete 50 years on 22nd November 2022. Chetana started its journey with the legendary production ‘Mareech Sangbad’, written and directed by Arun Mukhopadhyay. The play will also complete its 50th year as well, including remarkable plays like ‘Jagannath’, ‘Teesta Purer Brittanto’, ‘Mephisto’, ‘Ghasiram Kotwal’ and ‘Don—Taake Bhalo Laage’.

Chetana has produced 40 full-length plays and 12 short plays in its 50 years of illustrious passage. To commemorate this historical moment, we have organized a theatre festival from 18th to 23rd November. The festival will feature the restaging of ‘Mareech Sangbad’ with an ensemble of eminent thespians of the Bengali stage. Debshankar Haldar, Anirban Bhattacharya, Anirban Chakraborty, Meghnad Bhattacharya, Kaushik Chattopadhyay, Shubhasis Mukhopadhyay, Shantilal Mukhopadhyay, Supriyo Dutt, Biplab Bandopadhyay will be part of this distinguished cast. ‘Jagannath’, another landmark production on the Indian stage will be remounted on this occasion. After a long gap, productions of ‘Mephisto’, ‘Ghasiram Kotwal’, and ‘Don— Taake Bhalo Laage’, directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay and Sujan Mukhopadhyay will be showcased at this festival. Bikram Dasgupta Foundation has extended its generous support for this festival.
