Chest Pain in Gurgaon, Successful Heart Intervention in Kolkata

A remarkable case of timely medical guidance, patient courage and coordinated cardiac care unfolded when 56-year-old businessman Mr. Afsar Ahmed Khan, who was in Gurgaon for business purposes, suddenly developed chest pain and significant discomfort.
Mr. Khan initially sought medical attention at a local hospital in Gurgaon. However, he subsequently decided to travel to Kolkata for further treatment and contacted the cardiac team at Kolkata Heart Lung Center & Research Institute for medical guidance.
Following an assessment of his ECG, the cardiac team advised him to take the appropriate loading dose of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) along with a statin before undertaking the journey.
Despite being in another city and fully understanding the risks associated with air travel while experiencing an ongoing cardiac problem, Mr. Khan made the difficult decision to travel to Kolkata, placing his trust in the hospital and treating doctor Dr. Aadil Bashir Wasil.
After taking the prescribed medication, Mr. Khan travelled by flight and reached the hospital late at night. The medical team immediately evaluated him and proceeded with coronary angiography.
The angiogram revealed critical coronary artery disease with total occlusion of the OM (obtuse marginal) branch. Recognising the severity of the blockage, the cardiology team promptly proceeded with angioplasty.
The procedure was successfully performed, with implantation of a drug-eluting stent to restore blood flow. A good final blood-flow result was achieved, and Mr. Khan was subsequently discharged in stable condition.
The case highlights the importance of timely medical advice, rapid access to specialised cardiac care and coordinated decision-making in patients presenting with potentially serious heart-related symptoms.
It also stands as a testament to the patient’s determination and trust in his treating team.
From Gurgaon to Kolkata, Mr. Afsar Ahmed Khan’s journey was not merely a journey between two cities—it was a journey of trust that ultimately ended with a successful heart intervention.
