BREAKING BARRIERS TO SUSTAINABLE GROWTH BECOMES THE NEW FOCUS OF THE INDIAN RETAIL INDUSTRY

The Retailers Association of India (RAI) organised the ‘Kolkata Retail Summit (KRS) 2019’ on November 7, 2019 at The Park Hotel in Kolkata. Themed ‘Breaking Barriers to Sustainable Growth’, the summit saw an overwhelming participation of the retail fraternity from Eastern India.

The key highlight of the summit was an insightful one-on-one interaction between Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, IPR, Arts & Culture, Govt. of Meghalaya, Shri AL Hek with Jimmy Tangree, Station Head of 91.9 Friends FM, that kept the audience captivated.

Speaking about the central theme of KRS 2019, Kumar Rajagopalan – CEO, Retailers Association of India (RAI), said, “Sustainable growth involves going beyond profits to focus on several aspects of the organisation and its business, which include both internal or external aspects. To achieve sustainable growth, it is essential for the organisation to achieve a fine balance between its short-term and long-term growth. Achieving Sustainable growth is critical for businesses and hence it was in focus at Kolkata Retail Summit 2019.”

The RAI Kolkata Retail Summit 2019 included a special address by Retail Stalwart BS Nagesh – Chairman RAI, Chairman Shoppers Stop Ltd. & Founder TRRAIN. Lalit Agarwal, CMD, V-Mart Retail Ltd. shared the secret behind the phenomenal success of V-Mart.

The stimulating panel discussions included a dialogue on various aspects of the central theme, employees as important drivers of sustainable growth, and what will drive retail in the coming years. The key aspects discussed included social impact, environmental consciousness, customer-centricity, good people practices, technology adoption, and financial discipline.

Participating in the panel discussions were retail leaders such as Sagar Daryani – Wow! Momo, Siddharth Pansari – Primarc Group, Manish Agarwal – Big Bazaar, Dalpat Jain – Manyavar, Shibu Philips – Lulu Mall, Pulkit Baid – Great Eastern Retail Pvt. Ltd., Rochita Dey – Sreeleathers Ltd., ShitanshuJhunjhunwala – Turtle Ltd., Shreyans Surana – Style Baazar, Anurag Poddar – Presto, GR Srikkanth- Spencer’s Retail Ltd., Raunak Agarwal-  Mumuso India, Ravindra Khandelwal – Del Morrison – SAPL &Dhanwantary Group, SoumiBanik Nag – Ajanta Footcare.
