In 2013, UNESCO inscribed washoku—Japanese cuisine—on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and sushi is the archetypal example. Sushi is a refined and healthy food that looks good and tastes good, and it has already become a familiar item on menus worldwide.
The Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata in collaboration with the Indian Museum, Kolkata and the Japan Foundation organized an exhibition of “Sushi” that aims to provide an in-depth visual guide to the appeal of sushi.This is divided into three sections: introductive part about sushi, which is devoted to different discoveries related to this food; sushi in the Edo period that marked the culinary differences of this art, and sushi nowadays.
In the opening of the exhibit titled “I Love Sushi”, Consul-General of Japan in Kolkata, NAKAGAWA Koichi said Visitors of the exhibition will learn how sushi appeared in its original form in Japan, and what changes they have undergone, merging with the natural environment, culture and lifestyle of specific places.
The inauguration Ceremony took place today in the presence of Consul-General of Japan in Kolkata, NAKAGAWA Koichi and Director, Indian Museum, Kolkata, Arijit Dutta Chowdhury. The exhibition will be on display till December 22, 2023.
The japanese consulate is confident that the exhibition will appeal to both “people who haven’t heard much about sushi” and fans of this food.
