A growing popularity of Wushu in India

In this cricket-crazy country, it’s suddenly the less popular sports like Wushu are in focus and are growing.Wushu is an extensive and full-contact style of Chinese martial arts. It originally developed in China around the year 1949. The literal meaning of the word is also martial arts. The word ‘wu’ means official or martial, and the word ‘shu’ means arts. The sport was initially played to build up health, prolong life, and cure diseases. With time, it turned into a competitive sport.

The 19th Sub Junior National Wushu Championship  is scheduled to happen  from 25th to 30th November, 2019 At Sports Authority of India, Saltlake ,Kolkata. Covering more the 30 States/Units, expected 1100 Participants & 80 Technical Official will take part in this Mega Wushu National Championship.

” 43 State/Units are presently affiliated with Wushu Association of India including Departmental organizations like Army, SSB, CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, Assam Riffles, Air Force and Union Territories and also Wushu is included in All India University Games, All India Police Games, National Games, State Games, South Asian Games and Asian Games. Miss. Sandhya Rani became first Indian Wushu Player who got Arjuna Award, second M. Bimoljit Singh, third Y. Sanathoi Devi & fourth Miss Pooja Kadiyan. Wushu is the priority sports in Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India.” said Shambhu Seth the Founder & General Secretary of the Wushu Association of West Bengal.  Bhupender Singh Bajwa, President of the Wushu Association of India – WAI &  Shivendra Dubey, Secretary of Jharkhand Wushu Association were present.
