5th INKREHABCON 2024- CONFERENCE ON CARDIOPULMONARY REHABILITAION

The Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata (I-NK), a public private partnership of the Neurosciences foundation, Bengal, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Government of West Bengal, became functional with effect from April 15, 2009.

Neurorehabilitation is a complex medical process which aims to aid recovery from a nervous system injury which includes treatment of initial acute cardiopulmonary support. The goal is to improve quality of life by minimizing and/or compensating for any functional deficits.

I-NK Neurorehabilitation department aims to optimize a person’s participation in society and sense of well-being, post medical and surgical interventions. Rehabilitation is not a particular type of intervention.The focus is on the patient as a person.The goals relate to social functioning as well as health or well-being.It is not a process restricted to patients who may recover, partially or completely, but applies to all patients left with functional deficits.

To emphasize, “A person’s functional recovery& restoration to society is incomplete without rehabilitation”.

The Department of Neuro-rehabilitation is an integral part of the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata. is conducting an annual conference with two days’ seminar and hands-on workshopon“5th INKREHABCON 2024- CONFERENCE ON CARDIOPULMONARY REHABILITAION’’.

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs aim to limit the psychological and physiological stresses of cardiopulmonary diseases (CPD), reduce the risk of mortality secondary to CPD, and improve cardiovascular function to help patients achieve their highest quality of life possible. Accomplishing these goals is the result of improving overall cardiac and pulmonary function and capacity, halting or reversing the progression of atherosclerotic disease and increasing the patient’s self-confidence through gradual conditioning.

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is a supervised exercise program that involves education, nutritional counselling, stress management, smoking cessation and other lifestyle changes designed to prevent or reverse the progression of cardiopulmonary diseases.

The Department provides rehabilitation services to the individuals suffering from various kinds of neurological, cardiopulmonary, orthopedic, vascular and also few hematological problems. The services are provided by multidisciplinary team under the guidance and supervision Dr. Suparna Ganguly, Director, Department of Neurorehabilitation. The team consists of qualified physiotherapists, occupational therapists, swallowing speech language pathologists, orthotist and prosthetist, rehab nurses, rehab health assistant, psychologist and rehabilitation social worker qualified from CMC Vellore, Manipal University, SVNIRTAR Orissa, SRMU Chennai, NIOH Kolkata and AIPMR Mumbai.

Apart from the traditional interventions, the department also focuses on interventions based on technological advancements such as body weight support, functional electrical stimulation, virtual rehab, robotics and has extended services to home-based rehabilitation on our patients and well-wishers feedback and request in order maintain continuity to care.
