5-years-old BHIS student recites shlokas and creates a record in the India Book of Record
While tiny toddlers are grasping foundation concepts and learning alphabets and numbers, a 5-year-old Senior Kindergarten student Mahika Potnis of Billabong High International School (BHIS), Hadapsar, Pune has made her parents and school proud by registering her name in the India Book of Record (IBR) for reciting Shlokas several times in five minutes.
Mahika is a student of BHIS from Hadapsar, Pune, who is inspired by her mother who memorises shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita every morning. She has been reciting verses from the holy text every day ever since she was 4-years-old.
Mahika’s mother Sarika saw that their daughter was interested in reciting Shlokas and hence she enrolled her in classes for the same. That’s how they decided to enter the competition and following this, Mahika recorded her performance and sent the video to the record book, that selected it.
Excited about her achievement, Mahika’s mother Ms Sarika Potnis said, “We have a routine to conduct a puja every morning with Mahika. By listening to us every day recite shlokas Mahika too picked up fast and learnt the shlokas at this young age. She is a disciplined child and shows love for our culture and tradition.”
Shrutika Lawand, Principal, BHIS, Hadapsar, Pune, said, “My heartfelt congratulations to Mahika for reciting 30 shlokas in 5 minutes and entering “India’s Book of record”. This achievement is commendable, well deserved and reflects the values instilled in her at a tender age. It is a matter of great pride for Billabong High International School – Pune to have Mahika a ‘star performer’ as a part of our school.”
Rubina Bharucha, Preschool Coordinator, BHIS, Hadapsar, Pune, said, “This is a joyful moment for all of us. Mahika has not just made her parents proud but has also brought an honours to her school. Her achievement shows that she will set an example for other students to take up such challenges in the future. At BHIS, we take pride in instilling values and learnings among our children to not only expand their imagination but we also empower them to lead by example. We are very proud of her and congratulate her for this amazing achievement.”
