Rising Demand for Custom Furniture and Interior Solutions

Godrej Interio, India’s leading furniture and interior solutions brand, today launched its new outlet at Axis Mall in Rajarhat which is an emerging residential hub in the northeastern part of Kolkata. Spread across sprawling 6,000 sqft, this state-of-the-art store was launched by National-Award-winning actress Raima Sen and Anil Sain Mathur, Chief Operating Officer, Godrej Interio. The store will provide an impetus to Godrej Interio’s retail presence in the West Bengal and eastern India markets.

The new store lies in close proximity to leading residential hubs providing customers with an easy accessibility to the brand. It is segmented into two categories — home and kitchen products –  the store offers specially crafted products in the home furniture, home storage, and mattress and kitchen segments with modular storage solutions in different styles and finishing.

On the retail expansion, Anil Mathur, Chief Operating Officer, Godrej Interio, said, “Godrej Interio has a strong foothold in West Bengal market owing to its huge brand recall and significant customer base in the region. Anil Mathur also added that personalization is the biggest consumer trend observed in Kolkata. Wardrobe continues to be the predominantly popular category in the region. Kolkata is a lively metropolis, and its residents have always had a penchant for designer and modular home furniture.  Personalisation today is the biggest consumer trend. As a customer-centric brand, Godrej Interio had recently launched the ‘Interio Index’ study, which unearthed some interesting insights into couples’ relationships and attitudes towards the interior design of their homes. It is a light-hearted survey designed to understand the decision-making process behind Indians’ choice of home furnishings; with Kolkata as one of the key markets.

According to the research, in Kolkata, decisions pertaining to furniture and home décor selection is democratized. 65% of homeowners in Kolkata involve the entire family in the home décor decision-making in contrast to the national average of 45%. Even in kitchen design, which was nationally considered as women’s domain, 58% of Kolkata families retain their democratic approach and choose to include everyone in the house in the discussion. However, in the event of decision logjam, 31% of families say women of the house continue to wield the veto power compared to men (15%).
